HomeWise › Caregiver Guides › AI Companion for Caregivers
Looking After YourselfUpdated October 2026 · 5 min read
The hardest part of caring for a parent often comes after they fall asleep. The house goes quiet, the caregiver lines have closed, and there is nobody to tell how the day went. The HomeWise Evening Companion is for that hour: a free AI companion you can talk to, by text or out loud, in English, Chinese, Malay or Tamil. Think of it as an AI chatbot you can talk to about how you feel, built only for caregivers. This page explains what it is, what it will not do, how private it is, and how to use an AI companion safely.
The short version
Free, no account, open at any hour.
It is AI, not a person, and not a counsellor.
Four companions to choose from, each speaking four languages.
HomeWise does not save the conversation. In an emergency, call 995.
Use it alongside people, not instead of them.
A free AI companion for family caregivers in Singapore, built to listen at the end of a hard day.
It is not a chatbot for care questions. HomeWise has a separate Advisor for products and subsidies. The Companion is there to let you put the day down: what went wrong, what you are worried about, or nothing in particular. It asks gently, does not rush you, and does not lecture.
No. All four companions are AI.
Each has a written life story so it can understand what caregiving is like, but none of them is a real person and the page never pretends otherwise. If you want a real person, the Talk to a person button in the Companion lists who to call, and our guide to caregiver support in Singapore lists every helpline with its opening hours.
Pick whoever feels right tonight. You can change any time.
Uncle Roy
In his late 60s. Cared for his own parents for many years. For you if you want someone patient who never rushes you.
Priya
In her 20s. Knows what it is like to care for a parent while studying or starting work. For you if you are a younger caregiver juggling a lot.
Marcus
In his early 30s, working full time. For you if caring is colliding with your job, your time or your relationships.
Auntie Siti
In her late 40s. Knows the quiet weight of giving without asking for anything back. For you if you need someone to look after you for a change.
More about each of them, and how they talk: meet the four companions.
Talk the day through
Start with a tap: "It was a rough day", "I'm worried about my parent", "I can't sleep" or "I just want to talk". Or write whatever is on your mind.
Type or talk out loud
Write, or switch to voice and speak. Replies are read aloud by default, with a mute button and a Play again button under each reply.
Wind down before bed
A two-minute breathing exercise: follow the circle in for four seconds, out for six.
Pick up where you left off
If you end with Goodnight, one short line can stay on your own phone for 14 days, so next time the Companion can ask how it went. Forget this removes it.
Find a real person
Talk to a person, in the top bar, lists the caregiver lines and the 24-hour crisis lines with their numbers.
Every companion speaks English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Larger text is one tap away in the settings.
If someone is in danger now, call 995.
For emotional crisis support at any hour: Samaritans of Singapore 1767 or National Mindline 1771. If you mention a crisis, the Companion stops and gives you these numbers.
HomeWise does not save the conversation or record your voice.
What you type is sent to our AI provider so it can write each reply. HomeWise counts only how long you talked and in which language, never what you said. The one thing kept is optional: a single line on your own phone, for 14 days, if you end with Goodnight. It is never kept after an evening where the Companion gave emergency numbers. Full details are in our privacy notice.
It can help on a hard evening, as long as you remember what it is: a computer program, not a friend or a professional.
Singapore's Digital for Life movement warns that AI companions can feel like a real relationship and can draw people away from the ones they have. Its guide to AI companion and chatbot risks is worth reading. We built the Evening Companion with those risks in mind:
If you notice you are talking to the Companion instead of anyone else, that is a sign to reach out to a person. Our guide to caregiver support groups and helplines is a good place to start.

No. It will not advise on medicines, doses, wounds or diagnoses. For those it points you to a nurse, doctor or pharmacist. If you mention that someone is in danger, it gives you 995 and the 24-hour crisis lines.
A helpline connects you to a trained person, usually in office hours. The Companion is there at any hour for the ordinary hard evenings, when you want to talk the day through. For advice or a crisis, a person is the right call, and the Companion will say so.
