Every list of eldercare shops in Singapore tells you the same thing: here are ten places, here are their opening hours. None of them tell you the two things that actually decide what you pay — what the item costs, and how much of it the government will cover. A grab bar you buy yourself might cost S$40. The same grab bar installed under HDB EASE can cost you S$26.15 for a set of eight. This guide covers both.
Three things that decide what you actually pay
1. Whether the item is a device you buy, or a fitting installed in your home — different schemes, different money.
2. Whether you applied for the subsidy before buying. SMF does not reimburse after the fact.
3. Whether you need it load-bearing. Cheap works for mats and cushions. It does not work for anything taking body weight.
Singapore has three kinds of seller: specialist eldercare retailers with showrooms, general marketplaces, and pharmacies. Most families end up using more than one.

Across the products HomeWise tracks — 64 listings from six Singapore sources — everyday home safety items run from about S$2 to S$278. Anti-slip mats and bath sponges sit at the bottom. Grab bars, raised toilet seats and shower chairs cluster between S$15 and S$70. Rollators, commodes and fall-detection wearables sit at the top.
Bigger equipment — hospital beds, powered wheelchairs, pressure-relief mattresses — starts in the low thousands and is exactly where the subsidy matters most.
This is where families lose the most money — not by choosing the wrong shop, but by buying before applying.
The Seniors' Mobility and Enabling Fund covers up to 90% of approved mobility and assistive devices: wheelchairs, walking frames, commodes, shower chairs, pressure-relief mattresses, hospital beds, hearing aids and spectacles. Home healthcare items such as diapers and milk feeds are covered up to 80%.
Open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 60 and above, with household income of S$4,800 or less per person, or an Annual Value below S$21,000 where there is no income. At the top subsidy tier, a basic wheelchair costing around S$300 can come down to roughly S$30 out of pocket.
Grab bars, ramps, handrails and slip-resistant flooring are not bought — they are installed, at government-set prices. HDB households pay only 5% to 12.5%, which puts a first set of eight to ten grab bars at S$26.15 to S$52.30 depending on flat type.
Since 1 April 2026, private-property households can use EASE (Private) through BCA: S$1,200 in vouchers covering 75% of these fixed prices.

Buy after approval, never before
SMF does not reimburse devices bought before approval. The order is always: assessment by a qualified assessor, then application, then approval, then purchase from an approved vendor. AIC takes up to 15 working days to process a complete application.

Marketplaces are genuinely cheapest for small, low-risk items: anti-slip mats, bath sponges, bed wedges, cushion covers. HomeWise tracks marketplace listings alongside specialist suppliers for exactly this reason.
Two cautions. Check the seller ships from Singapore — many listings that appear local are shipped from overseas with long lead times and no recourse. And be careful with anything load-bearing. Suction-cup grab bars are widely sold and widely unsafe for weight bearing; they lose grip over time and fail without warning.
Marketplace purchases also may not qualify for SMF, which often makes the specialist retailer cheaper once the subsidy is counted.
Bathroom safety — The Golden Concepts and SeniorCare both hold good range, and both have showrooms so you can check height and grip before buying. For fixed grab bars, apply through EASE instead.
Wheelchairs and mobility — DNR Wheels and Assisted Living for range and hospital-grade options; Rainbow Care and Lifeline if you want to see it in person first.
Hospital beds and pressure care — Rainbow Care, Assisted Living and Yeap Medical. These are the items where the 90% SMF subsidy is worth the most, so apply before you shop.
Diapers, feeds and consumables — AgedCare by FairPrice and SeniorCare. Covered at up to 80% under SMF, but only if the senior is already receiving home nursing, home medical, home palliative or day hospice services.
Something urgently, today — Guardian and neighbourhood pharmacies for basics, or the Ubi and Toh Guan showrooms if you can travel.
For small items under S$50 — anti-slip mats, bath sponges, basic grab bars — Shopee and Lazada are usually cheapest. For anything load-bearing or medical, buy from a specialist retailer with a showroom. The real saving is not the shop, it is the subsidy: AIC SMF covers up to 90% of approved devices, which beats any discount you will find.
You must buy from an AIC-approved vendor, and you must get approval before you purchase. SMF does not reimburse retrospectively. Get the assessment first, then the approval, then buy.
Often yes on price, but check the seller ships from Singapore and read the reviews on load-bearing items. A suction grab bar that fails is not a saving. Marketplace listings also may not qualify for SMF, which usually makes the specialist shop cheaper overall.
